Gordon has loved traditional jazz since his early days in a high school Dixieland
band. He graduated from college with a degree in biology and during his first
years of teaching, hooked up with a local jazz band called the Do's and Don'ts
of Dixie which played many of the local bars around Dayton, Ohio for over ten
years. When that band dissolved, two members of the band were also playing with
Dave Greer's Classic Jazz Stompers. When a vacancy opened at the trombone slot,
Gordon was invited to join that band. The Stompers have played a variety of
festivals and jazz clubs throughout the U.S. and have done tours in Europe.
In addition to these activities Gordon has played with a number of other well
known jazz bands in the Midwest, including the Blue Chip Jazz Band (Cincinnati),
The Dukes of Dixie, and Jean Kittrel's St. Louis Rivermen. Gordon plays regularly
with the Toll House Jazz Band and handled the trombone role for THJB during
their 2003 jazz tour of Germany where they performed at the International Jazz
Festival in Dresden, as well as at special venues in Leipzig, Regensburg, and
Munich.
